CrewLink vs ServiceM8, compared on how travel fits into booking

ServiceM8 is job management software for trades and service contractors, and its booking suggestions allow for travel from prior jobs. CrewLink is a scheduling product only. Here is how to choose.

ServiceM8 and CrewLink share an idea that is less common than it should be: travel from the previous job belongs in the booking decision. That makes this comparison different from most. The bigger difference is scope. ServiceM8 is broad job management software; CrewLink is a scheduling product and nothing else.

This page covers what each one says it does, how they overlap, and who should pick which.

What ServiceM8 is

As of October 2026, ServiceM8's homepage calls it "Smart software for contractors & services" and says it helps you "Cut paperwork, get more jobs done & provide great service." It names job management, scheduling, quoting and invoicing, invoice payments, electronic forms, a phone product, asset management, online booking and accounting integrations, and lists trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, cleaning, locksmith, pool service, pest control and lawn care.

ServiceM8's scheduling page (as of October 2026) says: "ServiceM8 will suggest booking times, which take into account staff schedules and leave, and allow for travel time from prior jobs." The same page describes drag-and-drop scheduling, viewing the status and location of field staff for dispatch, alerts that tell staff when to leave for the next booking, and SMS booking links that let clients choose an available time.

That is a travel-aware approach to booking, stated plainly on ServiceM8's own site. We want to be clear about it, because it means the scheduling difference between the two products is narrower than with most platforms.

Where the difference sits

When two products both consider travel from the prior job, the useful questions get more specific:

  • Is travel a suggestion or a gate? Does the system only suggest good times, or does it refuse to offer times a crew cannot reach?
  • Is the travel live? Is the drive computed for the hour it will happen, or is it a fixed figure for the pair of addresses?
  • Where does the drive show up? Is it visible on the board as its own block, or folded into the appointment?

CrewLink's answers are: availability only includes slots a crew can physically reach; travel is live and computed from where the truck will actually be, meaning the previous job; and drive time sits on the board next to the job. That is what we mean by travel-feasible scheduling.

ServiceM8's page says its suggestions allow for travel time from prior jobs. It does not say, on the page we checked, how that travel time is computed or whether times that do not fit are withheld. We will not guess. Ask ServiceM8 these three questions, and ask us the same ones. The fuller list is in how to evaluate field service scheduling software.

Scope is the bigger difference

For most buyers the deciding factor will be scope, not mechanism.

ServiceM8 covers the job from quote to payment, with forms, assets and accounting integrations. Its US pricing page (as of October 2026) publishes plans that are tiered by the number of jobs per month, with a free plan for one user and unlimited users on paid plans.

CrewLink does a short list of things:

  • Builds live travel time into availability, so the only slots offered are ones a crew can reach.
  • Checks feasibility before a slot is offered, with travel computed from the previous job.
  • Schedules crews around the drive, not the calendar.
  • Gives you a dispatch board.
  • Is built for companies running 5 to 50 trucks.

CrewLink does not do quoting, invoicing, payments, forms, asset management, accounting integrations, customer texting, GPS tracking or a mobile app. A contractor network is on the roadmap and not live.

Who should pick ServiceM8

Pick ServiceM8 if you want one product for quoting, scheduling, job records, forms, invoicing and payments, and travel-aware booking suggestions are enough for your board. For a smaller operation, or one where paperwork is the main pain, it covers far more ground than CrewLink does.

Who should look at CrewLink

Look at CrewLink if you run 5 to 50 trucks and the day is the bottleneck: dispatchers rebuilding mornings, padded arrival windows, rising windshield time. If you want availability itself to exclude slots the drive cannot support, and want travel time on the schedule as its own visible block, that is the narrow job CrewLink is built for.

What to take away

  • ServiceM8 is job management software from quote to payment. CrewLink is a scheduling and dispatch product only.
  • ServiceM8's own site says its booking suggestions allow for travel time from prior jobs, so the scheduling gap is narrower than with most platforms.
  • Ask any vendor: is travel a suggestion or a gate, is it live, and is it visible on the board?
  • If you want quoting, invoicing and payments in one product, ServiceM8 is the better fit.

Common questions

Is CrewLink a ServiceM8 alternative?

For scheduling and dispatch only. CrewLink is a scheduling layer, not a full job management replacement. It does not do quoting, invoicing, payments or forms, which ServiceM8 names on its homepage as of October 2026.

Does ServiceM8 account for travel time?

Yes, according to its scheduling page as of October 2026, which says suggested booking times allow for travel time from prior jobs. For how that travel time is calculated, ask ServiceM8.

How is CrewLink's travel check different?

CrewLink only offers slots a crew can physically reach, with live travel computed from the previous job on that crew's day, and shows drive time on the board next to each job. Compare the details directly with any vendor using your own territory.

Who should choose ServiceM8 over CrewLink?

Trades and service contractors that want quoting, scheduling, invoicing and payments in one product, and for whom travel-aware booking suggestions are enough.

See your own day on it

CrewLink builds live travel time into availability, so the only slots it offers are ones a crew can physically reach. Walk through it with your own territory and service times — not a demo account.
